They’re Here. Your future. Today’s Youth.
We invest in stocks, retirements, 401ks,savings accounts and on and on.
What we need to invest in is our youth. They are our real future.
Cheryl Dooley, our CEO takes this quite serious. Ebsco as a company invest time in today’s youth through Dream It Do It and OK to Grow. Both programs are aimed at intermediate through high school students, encouraging them to stay in school and utilize the educational resources available to them. Over their life time this investment in their education could mean the difference in not making enough to get by and making a good living supporting their families.
I recently was asked to speak to a group of Union students about Enthusiasm and a Positive Attitude. We had a group discussion and wow was I impressed with these young men. They all knew where they wanted to go. Each had a plan and they wanted every bit of information I had to share. They were motivated!
On Monday we host our first group of Union interns in the job shadowing program. 2 hours a day for 10 days. I’m truly excited. Last year was our first year for this program and everyone at Ebsco is committed to make it even better this year. We will continue to welcome new groups every two weeks. In December we will be interviewing candidates for the actual intern program which runs from January through the end of the school year. We will really have time with these kids and will make sure they touch on every aspect of the business and hopefully have a little fun while they are at it.
Josh and Jordan are continuing visits to area high schools encouraging students to stay in school. They show them the benefits of their education and where it can take them. This programs goes on throughout the school year
These programs are important for the kids but everyone at Ebsco gets a lot back from them. Everyone loves working with the students and it makes us a little sharper when we need to teach it to someone else not to mention the excitement the students generate.
It’s just another reason I’m glad I work at Ebsco Spring. At Ebsco giving back to the community pays us all big dividends.
Now if you’ll excuse me I need to plan my opening meeting with the students.
