Analytics, algorithms, Social Media, Tweeting, LinkedIn, Googling, Search Engine, FB. Internet search engines have created their own language. An entirely new industry has emerged called Search Engine Optimization, or as I call them someone elses opinion. Companies want to be at the top of the list when you search for terms related to their field. Many pay huge sums to these SEO companies to get there. The problem is, How do you get there from here?
In the early days of the search engines, getting to the top of the list was easy. Put a few key words in your site (some of them buried so only the search engine can see them), repeat them as often as possible and there you are. That didn’t always give the best results to the person searching. The search engine got smarter and began looking at how other sites linked to your page. Again companies responded. The SEO companies knew the formulas the search engines used and adapted web sites to optimize those formulas.
Today, search engine algorithms (the mathematical formulas they use to order search results) are some of the highest guarded secrets on the planet. Area 51 would love to have their level of security. The MIT geeks at Google and Bing have created elaborate formulas to bring web searchers the best results possible and then safe guarded them from the world so SEO companies can’t “scam” the system. It is an ongoing battle with the search engines changing the rules and the SEO companies desperately trying to find the keys.
It has become so complex that there is no one strategy to improve your listing on the search engines. Different experts and SEO companies all have different strategies and ideas to give companies the best results possible. Everyone has a different opinion. If your SEO company is getting results, witch and get Someone Elses Opinion. This leaves business owners rolling their eyes at every new presentation from an SEO company.
Ebsco has just retained a new company to help us through the search engine jungle, Brookside Studios, here in Tulsa. They focus on what is important. Great content that our customers want, with a few tricks in the background. That really makes sense. You will slowly see subtle changes to our website and social media outlets. Some of them are already in place on our website. We want to make it easier for our visitors to find what they need with some interesting information they might want. Our Facebook page will continue posting information about our company and employees to give a glimpse of who Ebsco is. You will see more posts with a greater frequency to offer something new every time you visit. We will begin posting more information on LinkedIn for our followers there. We will expand our posts on Google Plus, You Tube and other sites. The key is more content that we hope is interesting to our followers.
This Blog is changing also. I’m not going to give out all the secrets now, but look for future posts. There will be occasional guest authors sharing the Blog with me. We will continue to write about springs and spring manufacturing. We will offer blogs on process controls and management. We will also continue to post blogs on various topics not related to springs that we think the readers will enjoy. We will continue to offer something , about everything for anyone with a few twists.
We do want Ebsco Spring at the top of the search engines, but more importantly we want our visitors to our website to find the information they need and learn who Ebsco Spring is. We want our social media followers to learn who we are, enjoy their time on our sites and hopefully have a few laughs while they are at it. So wish us luck. Give us feedback so we will know if we are on the right path and enjoy your time with us.
Now if you will excuse me I need to go tweet something.
