Ebsco’s Teams are off and running for 2013. I have talked about our teams before and I can say I have never been as proud of their accomplishments as I was in 2012. For 2013 we asked everyone to consider joining a different team. We hoped this would allow new energy and ideas for each team. If the start is any indication, we are in store for another great year.
We have six teams at Ebsco. Each has a specific area they focus their efforts on. I would like to break down the teams.
FUN TEAM The Fun Team plans our monthly employee luncheons. The luncheons are to celebrate achievements and milestones while saying thank you for all you have done. February will be their first one. On Valentine’s Day I walked in to find the break room decorated and members of the team walking around the shop handing out candy and goodies. Not bad for their first month.
COMMUNITY TEAM The community team directs Ebsco’s community involvement. Pretty important considering giving back to the community is one of the four pillars in our mission statement. They already have a basket for donation to the John 3:16 Mission in the break room. It went over so big we have already filled it and they had to bring another one out. We have volunteers signed up for the Polar Plunge, benefiting Special Olympics and we have a foursome and volunteers for an upcoming charity golf tournament benefitting Town and Country School. This is their accomplishments for the first month!
HEALTHY LIVING The Healthy Living Team started out with a questionnaire wanting to know what topics employees were concerned with. They will be providing informational clinics on health topics and several activities for employees to join. Based on what I have seen already this group will be offering good information and activities that will keep us all healthier. They are even talking about a state certification for Ebsco as a Healthy Employer.
SAFETY TEAM Obviously this is an important team. They drive our activities in creating a safe working environment. They are doing weekly safety walks through all departments. They have begun with targeted mini training classes on safety topics. Their efforts are leading toward eventual ISO 18001 certification for our Safety Program at Ebsco. I and everyone at Ebsco supports their efforts to keep us free from injuries.
e=cs² TEAM Ebsco’s World Class Manufacturing Team. They look at lean and other manufacturing theories to pick out the best of the best for our operation. This group has already brought several ideas that are paying off big for our production department and they are in the process on several more. The team has members from every department working on several projects to make Ebsco a World Class manufacturer.
GREEN TEAM This team just completed their ISO 14001 Environmental Management orientation program and will begin identifying significant environmental aspects at Ebsco next week. As you have previously read, Ebsco will be ISO certified for our EMS program by the end of this year. This is the group that will carry most of the burden to get us there. They will become or environmental experts. I have spent a great deal of time on this program and am very excited to work with the Team we have put together.
All of these teams are employee driven. Often, they meet without management in attendance. They have the full support of the entire management staff. Our teams have made major contributions to our success the past two years. It gives the employees a say in what Ebsco does and how it does it. These are the experts. These are the people who make things happen day in and day out at Ebsco. Utilizing them to help set our path just makes sense. The make up of the teams are new but the enthusiasm and ideas just keeping coming.
I’m confident we will see more great things coming from all of our teams in 2013. I can’t wait. Way to go TEAM!
