By Decree of His Royal Majesty, YOU, You Shall Daily Choose your Own Attitude!
There it is, a royal decree by His Royal Majesty ..YOU. No one can go against a royal decree. The only question now is what will you choose?
Seems so simple doesn’t it? Well the fact is that it is that simple.
In a recent Blog I spoke about our new Ebsco Book Club we are starting. We established this in four small groups, one of which includes myself. Our group is covering the book “FISH” by Stephen C. Lundin, Harry Paul and John Christensen. Fish is based on the World Famous Pike’s Fish market in Seattle. In the book a manager of a financial institution is given responsibility for an under performing department. In her search for answers she discovers Pikes Fish market and seeks to learn the secrets of Pikes to apply to her situation. She discovers four key points. One which I want to cover here;
CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE
This is one of those things that is so simple it can’t work. Just the things that usually do. Choose your attitude. When you enter any situation you have the opportunity to choose your attitude. When you wake up in the morning you have the power to choose your attitude. When you interact with others you have the choice to choose your attitude. YOU CHOOSE.
It so easy to be a victim and claim your attitude is decided by your environment. Your attitude is determined by what happens around you. This, in fact is your decision. You choose to be a victim of your environment. You choose to allow others to control you, but YOU still made the decision. Being a victim is a choice. Not a good choice but an all too common choice. “My Life Sucks”. as opposed to what? compared with what? When you choose to be a victim you also decide to place your fate in the hands of others. You give up control.
Look around at the people you consider successful. What attitude did they choose. Did they choose to be positive, resourceful, in control. They probably decided to be appreciative of others or I doubt they would be successful. Did they choose to make the most of the opportunities they have? Do they choose to be relentless in the pursuit of their dreams, not allowing anything to get in the way. The basic fact is they DECIDED to be the way they are. They choose to succeed.
Have you noticed that two different people can see the same situation differently? One sees the situation as hopeless and gives up while another sees it as a learning opportunity to help them improve in the future. They both decided.
I have seen these two decisions clearly in myself on weekends. Some weekends I drag myself to the family room wearing shorts and a tee-shirt, plop down in my recliner, watch mind numbing TV and wonder why I had such a bad day, don’t get anything done and don’t actually feel good. I decided to have this attitude and succeeded. On other weekends (the majority I hope) I rise early, get dressed and start my day. I’m focused on accomplishing tasks and enjoy the time I spend with my grandson and wife. I find myself to be engaged and simply love life. I DECIDED.
Some people always seem to be angry and unhappy while others seem to have unending energy and are always happy. It may be due to their environment but that environment was created by them, based on their decision. They DECIDED.
I challenge you, after reading this to think about the decision you are going to make. Wake up tomorrow and decide what attitude you are going to have, then watch what decisions you make. If you honestly do this you will quickly find out what real power you have over your life.
Afterall You have been given a Royal Decree to decide.
